Jeffrey Campbell Night Walk Lita Review

Hey guys! So I finally bought my own pair of night walks! Check out the unboxing below!

Yes I've already written a full review for this shoe, but I just can't get over how much I love them and how great it feels to actually own them. I have a mini collection of JCs sitting in my closet. It's super exciting. Honestly, I tried them on for a little at Nordstroms and walked like a few steps, but I actually WALKED in these shoes and it was so easy. Because it doesn't have a heel, it doesn't have the extra weight to hold it down and makes it easier to walk in than the Damsel.

Check out the look above, and here are some pics of the shoes.

Hope your holiday is going well so far. Mine is.

Ugly Sweater Party Ideas

This year I got invited to an ugly sweater party and I was thinking of all the ways this could go down. First off, being a monster, I have to outshine everyone else at the party. Need edgy heels and a flashy sweater. Or I can mellow out and just wear an ugly sweater and blend with everyone at the party. Or I can wear a sweater skirt. I looked for ideas on Pinterest, and most of the ideas were too obnoxious for me. Stuff was coming off the sweater and they had total 3D effects going on. I settled with putting lights into the sweater inspired by Jenna Marbles from her halloween custome. Got a cheap sweater from Walmart and battery operated lights from Target. Since it's knitted it was easy to shove the lights through, but I had to tape them to get them to stay in place. I used masking tape, probably not the best idea but it'll hold and it's less sticky than regular tape. If I decide to take it off that way it won't pull off the knit too much. The batter pack is small enough to put in a pocket (jeans or coat) but be careful not to leave it on too long because it gets a bit warm.

I also have a friend's sweater where they glued a bunch of stuff on there to make it ugly. Literally large snow flakes and a picture of Santa Clause on it. It's a cute sweater and it could have been made ugly in a cuter way. This is the easiest way to blend in. Right now I'm kind really into the sweater skirt. At first I questioned whether it would work for me, but the more I think about it, the more I want to buy it.

I would totally wear it elsewhere and it's not entirely ugly. I'd pair it with my Night Walks and denim shirt. It'd look great. Any other ideas?

Don't tell Jack that I kidnapped Sandy Claws.

http://lookbook.nu/look/4340397-I-kidnapped-Sandy-Claws

Check out the look above in the link!
Here are more photos of the look as well. Don't forget to check the make-up post on instagram. Christmas is just around the corner and I couldn't help but put this look together. It's combination of classy yet edgey. I give compliments to the Damsels for that. I wore something similar to this look for last year's christmas party but thought I'd recreate it and add more accessories to it. I attempted a bow bun, but my hair just wasn't cooperating for this shoot. Hence, the half-up, half-down look completed with a bow. I was so persistent in having a bow because of the presents, and felt it was a signature look of presents, so it only felt right that my look was completed with a bow. Everything is styled by me as well as the make-up. I used Smashbox, Urban Decay, and some loose pigment eyeshadow and MAC Viva Glam Nicki. Accessories as mentioned on lookbook are from Macy's. Damsels are from Solestruck.com. This dress was from Forever 21's Minnie Mouse Collection. The back of the dress is gorgeous. Simply sophisticated. There's a slit on the back of the dress so it makes it easier to maneuver. To wrap it up, the title came from the idea of Jack's ambition to be Santa Clause. The black and white coincidently ended up matching Jack's look as well as Minnie's. The eyeshadow expands beyond where shadow typically goes on the lower lid to give a more hallow effect and looking like Jack. Hope you enjoy your holiday.

Dance on by Dtrix

I'm a super huge fan of the DanceOn channel on YouTube. I'm not exactly sure what the exact concept of it is, but I believe it is sponsored by Just Dance 4. What's so interesting to me is the fact that they are legitimately making the youtubers dance. It's awesome. I'm like man, I wish I made a channel early on and then like had that upper advantage to win their prize. Wouldn't have happened, but wouldn't it have been so cool? It's great to see dance go beyond the dance world. It really does bring the world together. The professional dancers are great as well, they are so versatile and it's wonderful that the youtubers get to learn how to dance for free. What's odd about the show is that Ryan Higa is one of the judges. Honestly, it's almost insulting that he's not even of a dance background and he's one of the judges. But at the same time he's well acquainted with these guys so he can judge their performance and effort better than a professional. Keep on spreading the love of dance.

MAC Glamour Daze

I'm so devastated that MAC only has a limited stock on their collections, and what's worse is that they leave it on the website with false hope. I WANT THE GLAMOUR DAZE LIPSTICKS!

I'm just gonna say it, people on eBay are crazy. They're selling these lipsticks for approx $30, 100% profit on the lipstick that originally cost 16.50. Do you see why I'm so devastated? I've literally called all the MAC stores in my area to purchase them. It would be great if you restocked them. Hint hint, which I'm hoping for since they did bring back Viva Glam Gaga temporarily. But I am not sure if that was only for the website, cause that's where I saw it on. Well wishful thinking. Anyone want to send me theirs? Not used please, thanks.

In the meantime, don't forget to check out my lookbook and lookbook.nu/psherman42 and Instagram @xbrittniss

Toothpick vs. Matchstick Jeans at J. Crew

I really like that J. Crew has an assortment of colours for corduroy jeans. However, I didn't know there was a huge different between the Matchstick and the Toothpick style. Even there's a difference in sizes. I wear 26-27 depending on the brand of jeans, but I had a whole size difference between the two pair of jeans. The Matchstick I was 26 and Toothpick was 27. Matchstick is more like a bootcut/straight leg jean, where the Toothpick is like a skinny jean. I have been having issues with jeans lately where they bunch up at the zipper. I don't know if I never noticed it before, but I definitely experienced that with the Matchstick jean and Levi's high-rise. Furthermore, the matchstick were really baggy and lose around the legs. If you're into that style the matchstick is the way to go, but if you're more into the skinny jeans, then go Toothpick. I ended up picking the Toothpick because I like wearing boots so it's easier to fit into them and they looked fitting. I bought the brightest pink one. I literally couldn't contain my smile when I tried them on because I loved them so much. So far the only other pair of corduroys I own are from Urban Outfitters. I can't remember the brand of those but those ones are great too. Any other corduroy recommendations?

Khol's Shopping Experience - Rock and Republic Review

I typically don't like shopping at Khol's, but today I happened to take a look around their store for some holiday shopping. It's great for buying men's shirts for a good price but as far as clothing that I wear, not so much. Remember those Rock and Republic commercials that were airing awhile ago? Well, it finally caught my eye at the store because it's large sign and large space for it. I found a shirt I liked and it was the Embellished Drop-Tail Hem Blouse. I've wanted a top like this since Forever had it, but they sold out so fast it was so frustrating. Point is, I never got to buy it at Forever, so when I saw this shirt I was like MINE! Just kidding, I wasn't that obnoxious, but in my head I was. It is see-through, but it isn't as bad as sheer tops. I would try wearing it with a nude bra before resorting to wearing a tank top underneath. It is a high-low top so it's longer in the back, which is fine by me because it was look great with leggings and the Ikey-Over the Knee boots! Check out this link for the review.
http://brittniss.blogspot.com/2012/11/american-rag-ikey-over-knee-boot-review.html
Anyway, so there's these little triangles at the edge of the collar but it adds an edgey touch to it but it's not too overwhelming. Gold accessories would probably look best since it is a mint colour, but I'm sure silver would look fine too. Hope your holiday shopping is going well.

Leg warmers and rain boots - Capelli New York Rainboots review

It's finally raining here which means I can bust out my rain boots! And it just occurred to me that I can wear anything I want during the rain because my boots will keep me dry as well as wearing leg warmers and long socks. It's so toasty. I have 5 pairs of leg warmers that haven't been used in years and I found a use for them again. They look like socks anyway, so if you want that long sock look and don't have long enough socks, they are great for creating that illusion. I bought my rain boots from Marshall's and they're perfect. I've never heard of the brand until I decided to look at the bottom of my boot and figured out where they came from. They aren't too flashy with many coloured prints and its not the patent black so they're very subtle and matte black. There is a belt that crosses the front that is like welded onto it but the buckle is real. The only pitfall of these boots is that the lining of the bottom isn't glued in, so it moves around in the boot when walking. I don't know what they're logic was when making these shoes because its super annoying. Even if you wanted to take them out since they're bothering you, it becomes to uncomfortable to walk without it. It's a love hate relationship. Plus, there's pink lining on the inside of the shaft, which gives it the perfect touch. Winter break is finally approaching any plans?

Electric Holiday Video Review

If you haven't seen what Barney's and Disney put together, check out the link below!

Disney and Barney's New York Presents "Electric Holiday"

It's better than I imagined! Even Gaga was in it! They did a great job with re-creating the characters. I am not sure if that was due to the petitioning of the images, but I absolutely loved the video. Minnie is truly adorable and it doesn't change the way I view Minnie Mouse at all. She's a fashion icon of her own with the prominent large bow and white bloomers under her dress. Truthfully, I'm surprised there hasn't been any attack on the way Princess Tiana and Snow White were perceived because their characters were already pretty thin already. They lengthened their legs and thinned their faces, at least noticeably for Snow White. I am not sure if that is due to current animation and perception of her because she was developed back in the 1930s. Anyway on the brighter side, Daisy's outfit was my favorite on the runway. They did such an amazing job of animating real people, I was able to distinguish each person as they were introduce in the video. It was quite fun picking them out. The direction was perfect. Focusing on Minnie Mouse (versus Mickey) was crucial, and it is almost empowering that it was Minnie's time to shine. However, I did feel it was kind of perpetuating the Disney idea of needing a man to make your life happy, since Mickey was the one who actually purchased the dress for her. Sorry to be a kill joy! I know it's supposed to be cute that her boyfriend/husband thought of her and bought something for her but at the same time I see that view as well. With that being said, I can't wait to see the collection. Hope you enjoyed the video as much as I did.

GUESS Shoes - Mally Wedge Boots Review

I've been a fan of Guess heels for awhile now. Majority of my heels are Guess and I can only complain about one pair that came out about 4 years ago. It was their sparkly pump with the pointed toe (I apologize I don't know the exact name of the shoe, I'm sure I have the box somewhere). They're usually pretty comfortable and I can wear them all day. Also at this Macy's sale, I came across Mally Wedge Boots. They were also comfortable and the colour is fabulous! It's perfectly tan-ish beige, and I've never really seen that colour before on boots and thought they were super cute. Their pretty casual looking as well so I would recommend them for daily wear or if you wanted to wear them with a more dressy outfit, but I wouldn't say formal. The wedge is about 2.5 inches (I'm guessing cause I forgot) which makes them easy to walk in. Guess fits true to size and this is no exception. This boot is a great addition to add to your collection of shoes. Shoe tip of the day: if your first reaction when putting on a shoe is uncomfortability, DO NOT BUY! It's not worth the pain and money to spend on these shoes. Trust me, I get hooked on a pair of shoes and obsess over them until I try them on. If they hurt me from just standing in them, they aren't for me. Hope this helps.

American Rag - Ikey, Over-the-knee Boot Review

Veteran's day brought a lot of sales, as it brought me my new boots! I was super stoked cause I looked at them before and they were priced at $99.95 and then the next day, it went down to 59.97 (or something like that). So I was like OMG! It's a sign! I must have them! Plus, I had an extra 20% off at Macy's. It became the perfect opportunity to buy them. The current sale price will be there until the 15th (11/15/12) in case you become interested in buying them. Let me say, I was drawn to them the minute I saw them. I first tried them on in the "Mushroom" colour and was fond of them, but mother dear wasn't to keen on the colour. I looked online and saw them in black and so I asked Macy's if they had them in black in store. AND THEY DID! I purchased them and wore them the next day. I don't know if it's just the shoes I own but I cannot zip the outter zipper even though the picture displayed on the website shows it can zip all the way. Anyway, they are super comfortable and I've been dying for a pair of boots that go over the knee. It's true to fit and they have an inside zipper to put them on. Also, they're lined on the inside to keep your legs warm, so long socks aren't really necessary. They are perfect for casual wear and leggings with a long shirt. I haven't tried them on with a dress yet, but I bet they would look great with that as well. I promise I will get a look with these boots on soon!

Jeffrey Campbell Night Walk Lita and Freda Review

So who is not in love with these shoes?! They are absolutely so comfortable for being a 6+ inch heel. I don't own either of these but have been eyeing them since summer. Every time I find the Night Walk Lita on sale, it's always sold out! Especially my size! 7 is so freakin common. I love the Freda ones as well. Even though they look very similar to the Damsel, I think the colour and style of it is very different and gives an entirely different look of the Damsel. The Night Walk Lita is actually so easy to walk in. It's kind of thrilling to think you're walking without a heel. I'd definitely own both shoes if I could. Happy Friday!

Nails and guitars

I've been quoting a lot of gaga lately and I was so convinced that she said "nails and guitars" in paparazzi that I was so excited to name my look this, but settled for the actually lyrics and decided to name my blog piece this. Here's the look.

This top is actually ripped and I didn't get a chance to sew it yet, but y'all can't see it so it looks fine. I adore this skirt and like I've mentioned before I'm really obsessed with the high-low hem. I added spiked jewelry to make it look edgier and the contrast with the brass, silver and pewter colors adds variety to the look. Lipstick is Viva Glam Cindi. Below are the pieces available at StylesForLess.com.
I also wanted to complain about nail polish chipping when playing guitar. Hence the title. I never get to practice cause I consistently paint my nails and don't want to ruin it. So then I debate on acrylics but I bet that would hurt and eventually ruin my nail. Sigh. C'mon nail makers make this shit guitar proof. Happy Halloween.

Bullies

Recently, I've spoken with a few colleagues who had some interesting things to say. The first one told me they were still encountering bullies even in college. The second one said they were never bullied even in high school or never met a bully. Being my age, I know they exist amongst younger society especially in middle school and high school as well as the Internet since its easy to hide behind a fake identity or no identity at all. But today, I walked out of the library and got bullied for the first time in 4 years. First off, he told me my hair was ugly and second off, he laughed it off with his friend. Lucky for me, I experienced bullying before and was not damaged by what the said, but entirely shocked that being in a college setting, this guy was saying this to me. Especially for the first time in four years being on the campus I was uttly blown away. Regardless of whether or not it affected me, this is not okay. People like that kill millions every day with their rude comments. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.
Be kind to each other kids.

I'll follow you until you love me.

FINALLY got a new look up and did it with Fame. It actually looks quite ridiculous because I didn't realize it wasn't standing straight and I bought the small one so it isn't as striking as I thought it would turn out. But I'm still happy with the results. The inspiration for this piece was Bad Romance, as it was the first song I officially liked of Gaga's and after that I became a fan. Plus the dress resembles the liquid and I tried to add gold accessories but I don't believe it was apparent as I hoped. Anyway, I tried to emulate the bath house and I think that came across. It felt so cool wearing this crown and felt like a part of the video (I wish). I would have died and my life would have been made if I was in that video.
With that being said, paws up monsters and share the kindness.

Barney's New York Skinny Minnie Mouse

Everyone knows the classic Minnie Mouse as being a short, full character that is fun loving and child appropriate. Growing up with her, we have never seen any variation of her in at least the last 20 years except for the computer generated version she was latest updated to but still looks very similar to the cartoon, 2D version. Barney's has proposed/already campaigned to have her on the runway with a taller, lanky version of her and there have been people to have protested this. Personally, I love the idea of having Minnie and other characters dramaticized to these images. It's like someone's artistic perception of her and doesn't damage her likeness in anyway. Yes, I know you must be thinking that I don't promote anorexia and people going to extreme measures to create their body image, but I think that these are completely separate for the fact Minnie is a cartoon character and young children identify with a cartoon characters but not to the same extent as people who actually exist in their lives. I am not discouraging parents to not allow their children to believe cartoon characters are real, but to the same extent, they aren't as tangible. Barney's isn't targeting a younger audience, so it seems that these protestors don't really have an argument. This campaign is for an older target market and people who have seen Minnie Mouse before and know she doesn't really look like this. Furthermore, we have allowed the creators of "Once Upon a Time" to change the ideas and concepts of our traditional fairy tales, so allowing Barney's of New York to have a different perception of Minnie. I loved what they did with Gaga's Workshop and was looking forward to this year's campaign.

#PinkHeadProblems

So my gaga tickets came in, I dyed my hair again, and Pretty Little Liars marathon is recording at the moment, and all is well. Born This Way Ball here I come!

Well, I said I would update when I re-dyed my hair and it has finally come. This time it took 6+ hours to do my hair cause there was not any freakin conditioner in the dye which I left out this time because I wanted it to last and be more pink. That was dumb. More problems we encountered this time around: 1. Took longer because dye was so thick. 2. My hair was splotchy for some weird reason because my hair wouldn't take the dye. 3. My hair is more shades of pink than last time. Don't get me wrong, I love the way my hair turned out, just upset at the inconsistencies with this dye...or my head for that matter. Used the same exact products except for the conditioner, not sure if that changes the properties of the entire thing but it was excruciating long. Tips I learned for this time: wash hair in cold water and avoid the sun, which sucks cause the weather is cooling down and need to take two showers just to wash hair separately. So much fun.

I'm super stoked I finally get to see season 3 of PLL. Hopefully my stupid DVR works and actually records it. It's been so unreliable lately and frustrates me because I haven't been able to watch Glee on my tv but on Hulu since Grey's Anatomy is playing at the same time. Dumb right?

Halloween is coming up and I haven't posted any new looks on LB. I know, I've been slacking. I have so many pieces in mind but been too busy to it them together. Maybe this weekend if I have time. So, if I don't post by Halloween....Happy Halloween and be safe.

Update on pink dye.

As much as I was happy with the results, it didn't last as long as I had hoped. The salon people told me that ion color brilliance was the best one for coloured dye, but it seems to be just as ineffective. Who knows if it didn't last on my part because I didn't put in the product to lock the colour or cause I didn't properly wash the bleach out prior or maybe cause I didn't use shampoo and conditioner for colour treated hair, who knows. But I will find out this next time around when I dye my hair again and do everything properly. Wish me luck.

Pretty Little Liars and Nail Polish

I've been obsessing over this show for the last month. Yes I know I'm late to jump on that band wagon but it's so addicting! Plus netflix has the first two seasons so I've been trying to watch them so I can start season 3. I love how they dress these girls, and more importantly, I love how their nails match their outfits. Honestly, I wonder how many times a day someone attends to their nails to make it look perfect. I wish I had that kind of service! It's so distracting. Every new "day" the color is different and stylized. I can't even pay attention to the dialogue because I'm fixated on their hands.
Point is, this has inspired me to try different styles and schemes for painting my nails such as painting the last two nails or painting the ring and thumb finger. It's quite entertaining and visually appealing every time I look at my hands. Has anyone tried those sticky nail things that you tape to your nails? Someone please tell me how those work out!

#BreedCompassion

There's something liberating about dying your hair that you feel you can be whomever you want to be. Literally and mentally of course. Gaga's song "Hair" completely embodies the idea that your hair is part of who you are and if you can't do what you want with your hair, then you're not letting the individual be who s/he wants to be. I have decided to dye my hair other colours for fun. I'm going to try out blue, aqua, and fuchsia. My hair has become my new pallet besides make up and clothing. Speaking of make up and clothing, I have not discovered any new make up products that I can rave about except for my current mascara Telescope by L'Oreal. I have attempted to use the Falsies by Maybelline but quite honestly the brush it too big so there isn't any control of the brush and then you're getting mascara on parts of your lids that you didn't intend to, so now if you mess up (with your eyeshadow) then you have to redo what you just did and it's just a mess. I have also tried Illegal Length by Maybelline which isn't as difficult to use as the Falsies but it doesn't cover your lashes as well as the Telescope one. Since it is a thinner brush, you can get into the corners of your eyelashes much easier and it's not clumpy either. Try it out for yourself and let me know what you think of it.

Blonde bitch + pink dye = Free As My Hair

Over the weekend I dyed my hair pink. It was a fun experience and let me say I love the results! I have been wanting to dye my hair this colour for quite awhile now but finally made the time to actually do it. So here are the products I used: Ion Colour Brilliance Brights, Suave Professionals Sleek Conditioner, Prism Lites Lighter, and Salom Care 30 Developer. The bleach asks for 20, but the beauty supply store recommended 30 because my hair is so dark. The instructions also advised to use Ion Colour Brilliance After Colour Treatment, but that didn't happen either due to the time I did this and because it was inconvenient to do so. I wouldn't say that it wouldn't help to buy it but it doesn't hurt not to either. The entire process took about 4.5 hours because my hair is long and because this was the first time bleaching my hair. You really dont need a "professional" to use this bleach because it is so user friendly. It also did not burn or smell as I have been warned, but my ahead did get hot because of the chemical reactions combusting on my head. Other than that it worked great! For long hair you will literally use the entire developer and half of the prism Lites. I would recommend starting with the crown first and work to the bottom if you want to do it all in one shot. Yes my hair did turn out a bit ombré because of this method but I didnt want to do 2 sessions of bleaching my hair. If you have the time and the patience by all means do 2 sessions and wash out the first section of hair when it reaches the colour you want. With that being said, I left the bleach it for about half and hour after completing the bottom layer of hair. I did not wash my hair after this process so this could also be why my hair turned out this colour. It was the weirdest feeling ever having blonde dried hair! I just wanted to be like Gaga and that bitch goes and changes her hair back to brown. Only joking. Anyway, so after rinsing the bleach out, I had to blow dry hair to begin the fun part....getting pink hair! So I mixed the conditioner and dye for a number of reasons. Firstly, I wanted a cotton candy pink and not a hot pink, so once again I was instructed by the beauty supply workers to add conditioner to lighten the colour. Secondly, 2 boxes of dye did NOT look like it would be enough to colour my entire head. Thus, I added conditioner to get more...yay! I added colour to the roots before adding dye to the entire strand to ensure that I would have enough dye to colour my head and in the end it worked out! My hair was super soft and I got light pink hair. I left it in for half an hour after doing my entire head but I would say it doesn't hurt to leave the dye in longer since it is dye and not as invasive as bleach. I love being a pink head! But here's the pitfall....my hair grows super fast. I literally dyed it 4 days ago and you can already see the black hair growing back in. I am so devasted! But you know what that means...I get to do it all over again! Woo. And if you really think I did this by myself that wasn't the case, I had 2 people working on my hair and I would NEVER attempt this on my own. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask them in the comments below.
Cheers to pink hair!

Fame and Minnie Mouse

I'm excited to announce I have purchased Lady Gaga's fragrance Fame. It's literally perfection in a bottle. (Okay I am a little biased being a proud little monster, but it smells amazing!) I haven't gotten a chance to open the bottle yet, and I'm taking advantage of the little testers Macys gave with the purchase. I honestly can't even describe the smell, but it's so appealing that it's addicting.

Personally, bitch is expensive. Sorry mother monster, but every product you sell is exclusive and top notch and it's making me broke. I have all these Gaga items that I don't know what to do with but collect! I guess that's what I get for being a fan. What do you think of the fragrance?

I also purchased a few of the Minnie Mouse Collection by O.P.I. and let me say the Color of Minnie red is perfect! It embodies the colour of Minnie Mouse, her personality and is great for every occassion. I typically like a darker red for my nails, but after trying this colour on I had a change of heart. I also own If You Moust You Moust and it's a bubble gum pink that would work with Viva Glam Nicki lipstick. I have this obsession of matching my lipsticks with my nail polish, so let me know which lipstick would look best with The Color of Minnie.

Lastly, be sure to check out Office Depot and the Kindness stickies. I haven't actually discussed why this means so much to me but I fully support everything the Born This Way Foundation stands for. It's definitely not solely for homosexuals and transgenders, as some people believe, but significantly to promote anti-bullying and kindness to all beings regardless of their sexual orientation, race, gender, or national origin. I think the stickies and sharpies are a great way to remind people to be brave to prevent bullying and share kindness to those who need it most.

And all these people with small dreams are looking up at the big screen

So I apologize for slacking on blogs, but here's the latest look.
This was an amazing show, definitely one of my favorites. Young the Giant sounds amazing live and they should be on your list of bands to see live. I thought the show was too short and wish it could be longer!

Back to the look. This is my second favorite pink lipstick by MAC, Viva Glam Nicki. The colour isn't as bright as Lickable but it's still very pink. My hair was braided overnight and undone to get this style. I adore this dress! It definitely caught my eye on the rack. The navaho print and colors are really appealing. I missed out on buying navaho print for winter, so when I was able to rock it for summer, it all worked out. It looks really good by itself and with a sweater (like mine) to go over. I've been dying to use this sweater and was so excited when I found an outfit to wear it with. This summer has been too hot to wear it so when I found an opportunity to wear it, I seized the chance.

Summer is now coming to an end and I hope you enjoyed yours. Please check out my previous look and share the kindness.

Rendezvous a l'hôtel café, s'il vouz plaît.

So this look was a spur of the moment, hence awful quality pictures. But I am so into high-low skirts at the current moment. I wasn't a fan of the fashion at first, but some styles happened to catch my eye, like the one in this look. I adore the lightness of it and how casual and formal it can be.
This look has lipstick by MAC: Costa Chic. New favorite lip colour as well. It's light and flirty and not too pop-y like Lickable or Nicki.

NorCal Roadtrip

So I recently took a road trip to Northern California, it's absolutely gorgeous. Every place feels like magical creatures will spring up and great you from the forest. Check out these photos.
Looks like wisps from Brave will appear any moment.

Sorry total strangers who got in my pic.

Hunger Games

AH! So I absolutely love how these shots came out!

As you should grasp from the title, this look was also inspired by the Hunger Games, especially the scene where Katniss volunteers as tribute. Each of these items are very particular to details in the book, especially the jewelry. The earrings symbolize the feathers at the end of arrows, since obviously I am not going to walk around with a deadly weapon. Secondly, the necklace is a reference to the second book, "Catching Fire," so spoiler alert! One of the game makers has a pocket watch with a mockingjay across the face of it, so when I saw this necklace, I knew it would go perfectly with this outfit. The boots are from my first lookbook post, but the boots and the jacket are supposed to be part of her hunting experiences and the actual Hunger Games.

As you may have read before, I am obsessed with these books, so I've envisioned this look for quite awhile as well and finally was able to shoot it. Feel free to share your Hunger Games inspired looks and thoughts about the book in the comments!

Jeffrey Campbell Damsel Review

I LOVE THESE SHOES!

I haven't found this pair in any physical location, so I bought them from Solestruck.com.
They're completely amazing. All I read were positive reviews for this shoe and I must say I have to agree with the comments. I was surprised they actually fit true to size despite what some comments were saying. I wear a size 7 and from what the comments were saying I should have ordered a size 8, but I stuck with the size 7 since there were no half sizes. Luckily, I ordered the 7 because they fit perfectly fine. I would also recommend tying them up completely versus leaving the top notches undone so it fits tighter to the ankle and looks better on the leg. Regardless, you will get stares because they are so tall! They are my favorite pair of shoes by far. I want to get the brown leather too. I know I am an animal lover and feel horrible that they use leather but they are just that great of a shoe!

Never knows best.

The first two images are close ups of the shoes and shirt. I think excessive jewelry doesn't work with this kind of look because of the tie in the shirt and if worn with a blazer, the bracelet will hardly be seen. I've been romanticizing about this look for awhile and finally got to shoot it. I'd recommend nude or red lipstick, or even a brown color.

Taylor Dress

Yes, I own one of these. I tried to find the purple one online but I guess they no longer sell it on the website, which is weird since I just saw it in the store.
Anyway, love this dress and the details of the corset. I originally wore nude lipstick but totally forget it for this shoot. I think it looks great with heavy make up but Taylor pulled it off with light make up, so it really depends on your interpretation of the dress. Gold or silver jewelry works well, but wear a short chain to compliment the neckline of the dress.  As well as studs for earrings because you don't want to distract too much attention away from the dress. Once again, hair style is pin curling by Krista Bradford.

But now to the heart of the matter, Obama backing gay marriage is a huge step for equality. He knows this could possibly hurt his election campaign, but his stance will be supported by many. Please check out these links:
Read all the comments that WHATTHEBUCK puts on the video. If you have any human decency, you'll be enraged by the information too.

You are not alone Mr. President. We applaud you.

Glee

I love Glee. I love everything it stands for in terms of giving people rights and introducing issues that some people do not know exist. Yet, there are some stances that I think contradict themselves. I don’t appreciate some of the choreography that sexualizes the actresses. Regardless what the song is implying, the choreography is sending all the wrong messages to women and girls who watch the show. Then there is the constant bullying and rivalry amongst Sue and Roz. Yes some rivalry is healthy to some extent, but it’s perpetuating the constant cycle of being bulled. Lastly, tagging in the bathroom? Really? Do teens do that in school? Yeah, probably.. But to instill this in teens mines and making it okay for television, reinforces the idea that they can get away with it in real life.
Let’s analyze the latest show - Choke. Watch it here: http://www.hulu.com/watch/356212/glee-choke
The music was beautiful. Their rendition of “Shake It Out” was incredibly moving and Glee raised awareness of domestic violence, which I have discussed in a previous posting. Let me just say, Beiste should not have given Cooter a second chance! Hello! The first hit was signs of getting out. Don’t create excuses for your spouses abusive behavior. Get out! There is help who provide shelters and can help with a fresh start.
I'm glad they instilled the idea of having Puck graduate. The boys of the Glee got together in efforts to help him pass his last class when he lost hope in himself and wanted to drop out of high school.
Earlier in the show, it displays Puck singing “Schools Out For Summer,” and there are the cheerleaders being overtly sexualized and parents are not criticizing Glee for this? Look at the movements and judge for yourself.
Later, Tina, Brittany, Santana, Candy, and Mercedes sing “Cell Block Tango.” Once again, I understand this is a sexual broadway, but teenagers are watching this writers! They are watching the way these girls dance and will do this to get attention. Not all the dancing is sexualized. The choreography for "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" was artistic and fun.
Am I overanalyzing this? Glee seems to do just as much good with the same amount of bad. Maybe their writers should reanalyze their scripts? Or just modify the finer details that are not necessary?

I hope this blog gets to the right people.

But for those of you who came for the look, parks are great places to shoot photos, but I apologize that this was look was for the greater scheme of things.

Is masculinity a business on its own?

In this post I want to discuss a very important issue: Violence. Where does it stem from? How can we prevent it?

I watched a film today titled "Tough Guise" that I promote you all to watch. The interviewer, Katz (sorry I never got the full name), began with the scene from the Wizard of Oz where Toto unveils the wizard and explains Oz is a metaphor for masculinity. He symbolizes rejection, a guise, a mask, and shield of vulnerability, which men are typically are not seen as. Katz later goes on to describe how men must emulate masculinity and all its characteristics otherwise men are viewed as inferior. In this film it also gives statistics of men involved in the following:
Murder: 85%
Assult: 90%
Domestic Violence: 95%
Date Rape: 95%
Sexual Abuse: 95%
Rape: 99.8%
I do not know the exact date of the release of this film but I'm pretty sure these statistics haven't changed drastically. Katz comments about when an act of violence occurred by men/boys, it is concealed by titles such as "Kids who attack kids"or "Road rage amongst people" instead of "Boy attacks kids" or "Road rage amongst men," when if it were a female in these headlines the gender is always being defined.
Pop culture plays a significant part in this male stereotype of masculinity. Katz shows the audience a series of films of movies with crimes and how there are not critics against assaults against woman or sexualized images of women being assaulted but it's controversial over women being dramatized as violent in films like "Thelma and Louise."
Did you know Howard Stern's main concern during the Columbine shooting was that the attackers didn't have sex with the women before they killed themselves? He said the men should have taken them out with sex? I am extremely offended by his belief he's "challenging traditional morality" when in reality, he was reinforcing sexist values and sexually degrading women in a crude fashion.
People, this isn't funny. All these sex related jokes are hurtful and demean women. If it were the other way around, we are seen as too liberal, wrong, and not taken seriously.
Do we see a pattern here? We downplay the dominant characteristics of people such as white, heterosexual, and most importantly male. Because they are dominant they are almost invisible and we do not view them as being the issue to our culture.
A very significant quote from the film that I think you should consider is "There is nothing natural about images because they were made by someone." There are mind games and truths hidden behind the media all the time and we must delve deeper to find the root of their meanings. For example, the pop icons that we have embedded in our culture are not who we visualize them to be. Take our good old president Ronald Reagan. Did you know he opposed the equal rights movement of blacks? How about the women's movement? Don't forget the gay movement? Oh, and lastly the anti-war movement? These are all things that have created the society we live in today, and he felt we lost the Vietnam war because our nation went too soft because our country was fighting these issues. For those of you who supported Reagan, please reassess why you liked this president. My opinion is my own of course but please take this information into consideration.

My main point here is, as Katz was trying to inform me, that violence may stem from the ideal of masculinity. So how do we fix this? Well, I haven't finished the film yet, so I will inform you as soon as I know. But please, take the time to watch this film. But what I do think is that being masculine and promoting it in media has become a business of its own. Thus, action figures have changed over the last 50 years by become buffer and more defined while wrestlers have become more toned and bulkier. So we must rethink our business strategies and promote anti-violence in any way we can.

Thank you for reading this post.

For the record, Rue was supposed to be black.

Yes, I am obsessed with the Hunger Games. I've already read through the series twice, seen the movie twice, and would not mind reading through it again. Here are the pieces of the Lookbook post.
Love the back of this dress. I would definitely recommend a skinny belt, but it didn't fit this look.
The chain really isn't this long. I had to add another to make it longer. The quality of the necklace is decent, it would have been nicer if it had a more metallic feeling to it.
Other heels/shoes would work also.
I tried to look like a bird as much as possible. I didn't realize the dress was tighter than I remembered. The photo still came out nicely.

In the book, on page 98-99 it describes Rue's features. So for those who disagreed about Rue's actor, read it for yourself.

This has been my favorite way to curl hair. Check it out below.

This little piggy was too broke to pay rent

I was originally inspired by Kim Possible to shoot this look. I was going to take the photos in a coffee shop and look incognito, but the place was more crowded than I expected. I ended up shooting them outside, but it worked out nicely cause of the brick walls. I particularly like this picture because of the leg line with the heel.

And it turns out, I can't balance in heels to save my life.

I think this color blue and nude accents make a nice combination. This trench has been sitting in my closet and I was so excited when I finally got to use it. Gold accessories would also work well with this outfit. I highly recommend shopping at Ross/thrift store/Good Will because you never know what you will find. I literally bought every Betsey Johnson lace bag there, and I hardly find any heels that are comfortable elsewhere.
